It has been suggested that the name Teddy Bear bridge came from a teddy bear for sale in a nearby shop (in background?) - but see below.

It has also been suggested that the name Teddy Bear bridge was originally used for this temporary bridge (previously Ainon bridge) due to the gait of people crossing the unstable suspension part.
Water Street Flood, Ystradgynlais (2Y10)
Flood water December 1911. From a pre-1917 W Cartwright postcard kindly lent by Tim Barrell.
The traction engine has Edwards & Page Pavilion(s) on the side. The shop sign says J G Morris, World Renowned Hobart Cycles. The Water Street houses were demolished in late 1917.
